Villa Mosino is an impressive and elegant historic residence of the 18th century, located on a green hill area of Villa Guardia in Mosino.
The structure of the villa, designed by the architect Simone Cantoni, substantially corresponds to the original project, and consists of a body with an H shape with two courtyards: the first of these, with function of court of honor, is opened on the ancient road, the Briantea, and overlooks, on the hilly slope, a scenic area with a semicircular shape; the second one is enclosed between the two wings of the mansion and is connected with the park that slopes down to the valley through a beautiful staircase.
The three sides of the villa have different solutions: the neoclassical façade, facing the main road and between the porticoed wings, lends to the villa the appearance of a city palace. The façade overlooking the garden to the east is linear and more rustic in its simplicity, while the third façade, the northern one, makes an unexpected bow to the monumental, with its strong rusticated pillars.
The interior of the villa is decidedly grand with richly-decorated frescoed walls and ceilings. The grand main staircase features a marble balustrade enriched by a fascinating trompe d'oeil. The grandeur of the building comes from its large rooms with sometimes vaulted, sometimes coffered Lombardy-style ceilings, the splendid library, the marbled and frescoed principal bedroom and the beautiful monumental gate. An harmonious neoclassical chapel completes the structure.
The extensive park of about 40,000 sqm is partially in English style, and partially enriched with beautiful large old trees.
The villa is kept in good condition and all the outbuildings have been recently renovated, creating individual units overlooking the rustic and simple courtyard.
Villa Mosino is located near Como, Varese and Milan and a few minutes from the Como-Sud motorway exit of the highway Milano-Como-Chiasso.
