Lubriano, piazza S. Giovanni Battista

In Lubriano, a medieval Cistercian village in the Tuscia area, just off Orvieto and nearby Civita di Bagnoregio, stands the period residence Palazzo Monaldeschi della Cervara. Built as a Benedictine monastery in the Middle Ages, it was bought in 1400 by the Monaldeschi, a noble family from Orvieto, who transformed it into a hunting castle. In 1600 the architect Gazale di Vignanello redesigned and expanded the estate, creating a patrician palace in baroque style; today the original architectural structure is still integral.
This sumptuous residence is surrounded by a romantic garden in perfect harmony with the style of the historic manor, with its geometric bushes and its ancient architectural elements, such as arches, courtyards and fountains, typical of Italian landscape parks; it is articulated on two levels, connected by an elegant staircase.
At the roof level of this three-storey building, one can find a spectacular terrace, offering a stunning view of Civita di Bagnoregio and the Calanchi Valley. This landscape was painted in 1828 by the famous British painter W. Turner.
Entering the door on the main square of Lubriano, one has the sensation of starting a journey of other times full of charm and elegance.
The sumptuousness of the interiors, composed on the first floor of majestic stately rooms, magnificent ballrooms with mirrors and halls of tapestries and frescoes, a library, a music room, living rooms and winter gardens, reflects the skillful restoration, carried out in the 80s by the current owners, whilst preserving the atmosphere of the time.
Each room is rich in fine finishes, precious stucco and coffered ceilings, frescoes and trompe l'oeils, marble and antique terracotta claddings
The residence offers 17 bedrooms (an additional 8 can be created), some with boudoirs and en-suite bathrooms, over 3 apartments (independent and with kitchenettes) and 21 bathrooms, on a total area of over 2,200 square meters. There are also 2 large kitchens with independent entrances, equipped with preparation rooms and pantries, a restaurant area, warehouses and technical quarters.
The property includes a swimming pool, an ideal place to relax on hot days.
The residence, now a family home, is an exclusive destination for short-term luxury holiday rentals, corporate and private events, weddings and receptions in a refined and unforgettable setting.
Ideal for those who want a sumptuous private residence in an unspoilt medieval village, but also for entrepreneurs in the hotel de charme, this princely property is a rarity in the territory of Civita di Bagnoregio.
The Cultural Landscape of Civita di Bagnoregio, due to its historical, natural and artistic importance, is now inscribed in the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
